“How did I come up with the idea for HaloGuard?”

Honestly! I’d never really thought about my personal safety at all.
I’d often felt a bit uneasy walking to my car at night, driving home late or walking around Hagley Park when there wasn’t many people about. I would keep an eye out and stay alert, just in case, but like most people, I figured I’d be fine. It never occurred to me to think about what I would actually do if something happened!
Then I had a random accident.
When it happened I wasn’t lying there thinking ” I know , I’ll create a personal safety device ” it was more like….
“Sh*t, what’s just happened, I need help!!!” Problem? I’d knocked myself out, my phone was inside and my brain was scrambled.

I eventually got sorted and during my recovery a friend suggested I needed an alarm.
I’m fiercely independent so the thought of wearing something that was obviously an alarm was a hard NO!
I searched what was available that would suit my lifestyle (google was my friend), talked to loads of people, bought and distributed a fitbit style device from overseas and over time it all morphed into HaloGuard. It was journey!

These days I’m still aware, but not uneasy as I know help is close if I ever need it. And I want others to feel the same, whether they’re living alone, working late, or just out and about.

Weird as it sounds, I’m thankful the accident happened because if it hadn’t, HaloGuard wouldn’t exist, and thousands of people wouldn’t have that extra layer of safety and peace of mind.
